This school year, Grace Preschool celebrates its 50th anniversary of providing the Martha’s Vineyard Community with a quality childhood program that has served over 650 children since its founding. Established in 1956 as the Grace Church Co-operative Playgroup, it is the oldest existing preschool on Martha’s Vineyard.
The enrichment program at Grace Preschool has been able to offer to the children Creative Dramatics with Phyllis Vecchia, Tennis Lessons a the Youth Tennis Center, Drumming with Rick Bausman and Ice Skating at the MV Ice Arena. Students enjoy journeying out into the community as well as inviting people in to visit.
Three annual fundraisers sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) help to underwrite the cost of the school: the Turkey Run held in November of each year, and newly organized Annual Fund Drive, and a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction, which is scheduled for March 24 of this year.
This school year Grace Preschool faces the challenge of reaccredidation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The Grace Preschool staff under the leadership of Debbie Jernegan, director, assisted by Suzanne Metell and Julia Campos is committed to achieving and continuing the high marks of program excellence required by the NAEYC.
