Where can you get an award winning Lobster Roll during those long winter months on Martha’s Vineyard? As of Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 and the first Sunday of every month, January through April, the answer would be at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven. Every Friday afternoon from the first of May through the end of September, Grace Church offers Lobster Rolls to the community as its primary fundraiser for local outreach ministries. The program, unofficially chaired by Lorraine Clark and Beebe Greene, this past year broke all previous sales records: The final tally was 16,324! Celebrating our 25th year of serving lobster rolls in 2012, voted “Number One” by residents of the island 6 years running, 2007 – 2012. Grace Church is consistently featured in the July issue of The Best of the Vineyard published by Martha’s Vineyard Magazine; voted “Best of New England” as well as featured in The New York Times. The winning recipe is no secret. No fillers are used in making the rolls, just a little mayonnaise and white pepper for seasoning; the results are placed in a freshly baked roll or a container for carry out between the hours of 4:30 and 7:30 PM every Friday evening. Served with a bag of chips and beverage, diners may either sit comfortably with their neighbors at tables in the Parish Hall or outdoors at picnic tables on the grounds. Many prefer to take them home to serve for weekend guests or just have them later in the evening. Diners may also elect to add a piece of pie for dessert. Hot dogs are also available for children and those with allergies to shellfish. Cost? Only $15.00 for a Lobster Roll, $3.00 for a Hot Dog and $4.00 for a Slice of Pie (a Whole Pie for $20.00). Chips and drink are included in the cost of both the lobster rolls and the hot dogs. Diners with large orders of 8 or more may phone ahead to the “Grace Church Lobster Roll Hotline” at 508-693-0332 to have your order packed and ready to go when you arrive. ![]() |
